The women’s field was stacked with last year’s winner and defending US champion Katie Compton taking on the powerful LUNA duo of Katerina Nash and Georgia Gould. Helen Wyman (Kona) of Great Britain attacked from the start, creating the first selection. Only Katerina and Katie were able to respond. Wyman quickly faded, leaving Katerina and Katie to battle up front. An unfortunate crash on the run-up took Katerina out of contention for the win. Katie rode solo the rest of the race finishing almost a minute ahead of Katerina. Georgia had to battle with a surging Kelli Emmett (Giant Bicycles) for the final podium spot. A last lap attack dropped Kelli and secured 3rd place for Georgia. A great start to the cross season! Noteably absent was Alison Dunlap, stuck at home fighting a nasty sinus cold. She’ll join the rest of the team for the first round of the US Gran Prix in Madison, WI this weekend.
