Farragut State Park, North Idaho (June 6, 2009) – Celebrating the 17th Annual National Trails Day on a course voted the most peaceful, pristine and beautiful, Melanie McQuaid held her winning streak at the XTERRA Northwest Cup at Farragut State Park just north of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Half way through the 8 stops on XTERRA America Tour, she doesn’t appear to be letting up.
As usual Christine Jeffreys “Big Fish” led out of the swim. She had 3-minutes on McQuaid at T1 and knew it was only a matter of time before Melanie would reel her in. By T2 McQuaid, posting the best bike split of the day (1:33:31), was over four minutes in the lead.
AVIA Sponsored LUNA Pro, Danelle Kabush, showed her run prowess, making up over a minute on Jeffrey to finish in 2nd (her best of the year), and Jeffrey was 3rd to make it a Canadian sweep.
Conrad Stoltz raced strong held the lead until his front wheel came in contact with a nail. The Caveman’s mechanic skills made a quick fix but not quick enough to hold off the younger racers that have been vying to take Stoltz all season. Stoltz would finish in 5th.
Halfway through the 8-stop XTERRA Cup Series Conrad Stoltz and Melanie McQuaid remain on top.
