Eneko Llanos of Spain won his second Ironman Lanzarote this past weekend. Llanos used his trademark run to come from behind and win in a new course record time of 8:37:42. Having finished outside of the top 10 in Kona last year, Llanos needed to earn a qualifying spot to the World Championships. With this victory, he’ll be back in Kona in October.
From the Canary Islands to Waco, Texas. AVIA athletes ruled the roost at the XTERRA South Central Championships as Conrad Stoltz led an AVIA team sweep. Conrad grabbed the lead early on the bike and never looked back, “Today, I was feeling much better and I loved this course. It has 300 turns and twists and a ton of sharp uphills and it suits my power.” Close behind The Caveman was Josiah Midduagh and XTERRA World Champs runner-up Nico Lebrun. The women were equally impressive as Shonny Vandlandingham of the Luna Pro Team, Melanie McQuaid, and MelRad’s Emma Garrard went 2-3-4.
Back in Europe, Shonny’s Luna teammates were dominating the UCI Cross Country World Cup in Offenburg, Germany. Canadian Catharine Pendrel got a great win ahead of American teammate Georgia Gould. Pendrel has been extremely consistent to start the World Cup season and is now the overall points leader.
