Kenny Souza was and is the rock star of Duathlon. Souza is considered to be among the greatest endurance athletes of all time. Kenny has a unique desire and determination to be at top every time he steps to the line, a characteristic that resonates with AVIA, a relationship which has existed for nearly 30-years. In the 80’s and 90’s his rock star qualities ranged from the fluorescent speedo & Sampson-like hair to his world class performances. In 1999, Kenny retired and took up a normal life in Southern California with a job at Clif Bar and two kids. With his determination for great performance and drive to succeed plus a little encouragement from Clif Bar owner, Gary Erickson, he got back on the bike to compete in the 24-hr Corporate Challenge at RAAM. The team won! A year later Kenny competed solo in RAAM, finishing 4th and is now back on the duathlon scene too. Kenny, like lightning, “strikes twice”- an AVIA sponsored athlete since his early days, he has inspired our AVI-Bolt.
